Policies

  1. Must be 18 years or older for open studio times. Persons under 18 may sign up for age appropriate classes.
  2. Clay is available for purchase by clay studio members and students. The cost of clay includes glazing and firing. We only fire clay purchased from LPCCA.
  3. All glazes must be approved by the Studio Technician before firing. Only lead free and food safe glazes may be used.
  4. All work must be signed or labeled. Unidentified pieces will be held back from firing. Work that’s in-process must be clearly labeled with the potter’s name.
  5. Only handle your own work to prevent accidental breakage. This includes work in process, bisque and glazed ware.
  6. Please do not leave leather hard greenware on throwing bats, please transfer your work to ware boards which are provided.
  7. All items for glaze firing must be waxed on the bottom following the guidelines of the studio.
  8. Absolutely no clay is to go down the sink drain. If you have questions about what to do, check with the studio technician.
  9. When you are done working, clean up your area. Clean any tools, wheels, bats, sponges and the table area you used. *Both wheel and glaze room.
  10. Please start cleaning up at least 15 minutes before the end of your studio time.
  11. Do not sweep in the throwing room or glaze room. Do not sand bisque ware inside the facility. The dust from both of these actions is not safe to breath.
  12. As with all activities at LPCCA, adherence to our organization-wide Policies and Guidelines is required. (Copy available upon request.)

Procedures

  1. Purchase a monthly membership and clay.
  2. Come in during regular studio hours for an orientation. We’ll go over our studio checklist which includes some guidelines and tips.
  3. Contact our Studio Technician to let him/her know when you’re coming. We’ll also have a schedule for sign up.
  4. That’s it! You’re ready to create and we’ll be there to assist you along the way.
  5. If you’re an experienced potter and would like studio space to work, contact us to arrange hours during the week.

Glazing

Studio users are welcome to use our glazes but LPCCA cannot honor special requests or be responsible for out-of-stock glazes or other surface decoration options. Studio users may use personal glazes with the approval of the Studio Technician.

Our Firing Service

Our Firing Service allows your handcrafted ceramics to be fired up to Cone 6 in our electric kiln. The clay to be fired must be purchased from us. Every effort will be taken to ensure successful firings; but due to the massive number of variables beyond our control, we cannot be held responsible for losses during this process.

If interested, please contact us about our Commissioning Program. We would love to tell you all about it!
