Fiber Arts

LPCCA offers a variety of classes and workshops in the fiber arts, including courses in weaving, knitting, and more.  

Courses

Tiny Loom Workshop with Rita Collie

 Our expert Weaver Rita Collie is presenting this fun introductory workshop into the world of fiber arts.  Students will leave with a completed tiny loom project.  Materials are included and the loom is yours to take home.  Workshop will be held at Molley Chomper on the LPCCA campus at 9710 NC Hwy 194N, Lansing NC.

Weaving Workshop with Rita Collie

 This workshop will allow you to have a finished holiday wall hanging or placemat/table runner and teach you the basics of weaving. Various materials will be available to enable you to make a unique finished product.  This class is suitable for ages 8 and up.  Space is limited so register today!

Beginner Knitting

Learn the fundamentals knitting, a traditional technique with enduring appeal. Then apply what you have learned by casting on and beginning to work yarn.


This class will cover the following skills:

Color value, Methods for working two-colors, Casting on, Reading Charts, Yarn dominance, Catching floats, Proper tension, Fixing mistakes.





Fair Isle Cowl - Advanced Knitting

Learn the fundamentals of Fair Isle knitting, a traditional technique with enduring appeal. Then apply what you have learned by casting on and beginning to work a multi-colored cowl project in beautiful Shetland wool yarn.


This class will cover the following skills: color value, methods for working two-colors, casting on reading charts, yarn dominance, catching floats, proper tension, and fixing mistakes.


Meet Our Instructors

Rita Collie

Liz Washburn

Liz Washburn

Rita has been weaving on and off for over 45 years. Her husband bought her a loom as an engagement gift instead of a ring. She is a certified Master Weaver Level 1 and continues to learn and explore. She loves mixing colors in a painterly way and exploring all manner of looms from tree branches to rigid heddles to large floor looms. Rita says, “Teaching a subject I love is pure joy for me.”

Liz Washburn

Liz Washburn is an avid knitter, who loves to share her passion with others. A Craft Yarn Council certified instructor, she has taught at local yarn shops, schools, and churches. Liz is a knitwear designer, with numerous published patterns, many of which incorporate stranded color-work and lace techniques.
