An experienced nonprofit manager, Karen Mueller O’Neill has been guided by a passionate commitment to build community, educate and enrich the quality of life of others. She brings both deep, and broad, expertise with a professional background that includes leadership roles in media consulting, education and the performing arts sectors. Her specialty is building, engaging and growing audiences to create sustainable revenue streams for small to mid-size nonprofit organizations.
Mueller O’Neill has lived in and worked in urban and rural communities across the country, and for international organizations, adding perspective to her work. As a media research consultant, she helped clients such as the National Endowment for the Arts market test educational programming to ensure learning objective achievement. She led the marketing insight initiatives for a university within the US’s most competitive higher education market. As executive director of a small private school, she transformed fund development programs and systems infrastructure. And for more than 20 years, she led the marketing, ticket sales and communications efforts for two professional American orchestras working collaboratively with artistic leaders, the board of directors, committees and community partners to create relevant and entertaining programs that drew more than a hundred thousand patrons annually.
After hearing the call of the mountains, Mueller O’Neill recently relocated from Charlotte to Foscoe, NC, where she and her husband Jim designed and built their home. In her free time, Mueller O’Neill enjoys cooking, gardening, hiking, golf, art, music and her two Golden Retrievers Finn and Tully.
