Judy Scheel moved to Ashe County, NC in 2013 where she lives full-time. She has committed her spare time to the preservation of the land, culture, and economic development of the southern Appalachian mountains. She is currently working on a book project detailing the lives of the modern women of Ol' Appalachia.
Dr. Scheel has degrees in Psychology as well as Clinical Social Work. She maintains practices in Charlotte, NC, and New York and is also licensed in CA. She founded and directed a recognized treatment center for eating disorders in New York for more than 20 years, created and implemented a hospital-based treatment program, authored a book, and currently writes two blogs for the magazine, Psychology Today. She is internationally recognized for her work in eating disorders. Dr. Scheel has advanced training, certifications, and degrees in Sex Therapy and in Forensic Psychology.
Dr. Scheel brings to her Board position at LPCCA many years of understanding human motivation and significant expertise in team leadership, public speaking, and program development.
